Earth Day is this Sunday (April 13) and the Bayou Vermilion District will celebrate the annual tribute to our mother planet with a variety of activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Vermilionville historical village.
There will be community organizations and businesses on hand to share knowledge of environmentally related issues as well as provide fun activities for the kids. Visitors will be able to take a short canoe paddle in Vermilionville’s Petit Bayou, enjoy cooking demonstrations on how to preserve a garden’s harvest, catch and identify various aquatic bugs to help determine water quality, and much more. Corey Ledet & His Zydeco Band, the Lafayette Rhythm Devils and Joe Vidrine & Friends will perform and a rain barrel will be awarded to one lucky winner of the Wise Water raffle.
Organizations and businesses who will have exhibits include Wildlife & Fisheries, The Beetle Experience, Palmetto Island State Park, Acadiana Food Circle, LA Trail, Cultural Research Institute of Acadiana (CRIA), Earth Share Gardens, Friends of the Horse Farm, Lafayette Master Gardeners, Acadiana Permaculture Guild, Jim Foret the Tree Guy, Beekeepers of Acadiana, The Teche Project, Trees Acadiana, Bayou Vermilion Preservation Association, Lafayette Soil & Water Conservation District and the Sierra Club.
